To the left of the painting, the mother, with her blonde hair tied up, is wearing a short-sleeved yellow shirt and a long, loose blue skirt. Her figure takes up almost the entire width of the left side of the painting, as she is seated on the white bed, which is the length of the painting. While she sits, her knees are bent, head down and to the right, with her left hand extended and caressing the top of her son’s head. Her son, a young child, is to the right of the frame.
