Land Acknowledgement
Here at Held, we live and work in the Dish with One Spoon agreement on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee. The University of Guelph main campus is situated between the Great Lakes Treaty and is a part of the Grand River watershed. We also work in Adoobiigok (A-doe-bee-goke), the “Place of the Alders” in the Michi Saagiig [Mi-Chee Saw-Geeg]) language, on the Guelph-Humber campus.
As a collective, we acknowledge the original keepers of this land. We also recognize that this land is built on colonization and our lives are intertwined with – and differently impacted by – this historical and present-day violence. We are committed to reflecting on our complicity in the ongoing colonization of this land and to publishing a journal that engages with complex issues of reconciliation and decolonization.
