Emote, Emzy Shadows, acrylic painting on canvas, 16 x 20 in, 2020

Emote carries with it the weight of the year that just passed. I became disabled in May of last year. Chronic extreme pain followed me ever since. Emote is an expression of my pain, my disability, everything I have learned through going through what I went through. I needed to express what was going on internally... I call this one of my many Pain-tings. Sometimes we have to express visually what we can't in words. This was my way of reaching out to the universe and asking for help... Finally, I am in renewal.

Emzy Shadows has spent the last 10 years studying art, music and meditation as well as performing music across Canada. A devastating diagnosis and disability forced her to stop. Now, through abstract painting, she directly expresses the emotions and sensations that come with having endometriosis, PCOS, Anxiety and Depression.
