Letter from the Editors
We are excited to share our fourth issue, transit, which amplifies the diverse experiences of the human condition through time, land, self, and others. Each artist approaches the theme through a unique lens informed by their memories, thoughts, and bodies. We hope the writing and visual art in this issue inspires you to consider the transient nature of movement and the impermanence of being.
What a sublime hono(u)r to have played a part in this issue of Held. Thank you to every contributor for entrusting your marvelous work to us and making this collection what it is. Warmth and gratitude.

The flash stories in this issue ask us to travel with them, forward and backward in time, to moments when we've felt unsettled, or lost. They highlight the in-betweenness of being in transit, the state we find ourselves in before we reach the place we're meant to arrive.
- Kelly Pedro, Flash Editor
The Creative Nonfiction team was happy to read through the personal essays sent to us --memories of travel, the unpacking of childhood memories, and musings on the inner states of 'transit' or transition. Both literal and metaphoric meanings of 'transit'. We feel that creative nonfiction can be especially vulnerable for a writer to tackle and so we'd like to thank all the writers who trusted us with their submissions.
- Kate Reider Collins, Creative Nonfiction Editor
I found myself most struck by the non-literal interpretations for this issue’s theme—how one can be simultaneously in transition and stuck in place, both literally and figuratively. Thank you to all who trusted us with their work and to the selected artists for contributing to an excellent fourth issue.
